Tips for investigators

Patient recruitment and data documentation should be performed carefully according to study protocol in order to produce high quality results. Find here some tips regarding the MoCA test, the eCRF, and AF types.

MoCA Test: How do I calculate the score for education?

If the subject has 12 years of education or fewer, a point is added to his/her total score.

Please note that this number of years does not refer to a particular education level, for example, it does not refer to individuals that have or have not completed high school. The number of years of education must actually be counted starting after kindergarten (kindergarten must not be included in the count). “Formal education” is not limited to school education, e.g.: each full-time year of completed vocational training should be included in the count.

Please also note that the maximum score of the full MoCA test is 30, therefore, if a subject scores 30/30, a point is not added if he/she has 12 years of education or less. In the eCRF, this aspect is already covered automatically.

eCRF/Corelab upload of assessments between Baseline and Follow up ?

We would like to remind you to upload all routinely available data (MRI, CT, Echo, ECGs,) in the eCRF and Corelab upload platforms that are generated between baseline and follow up visit.

In addition, please also upload all routinely available blood analysis data between Baseline and Follow up in the eCRF.

Unbalanced distribution of Atrial Fibrillation types (paroxysmal/ persistent/ permanent)

According to the study protocol and for later evaluation, all three AF types (paroxysmal/ persistent/ permanent) should be distributed equally in the study (n= 200 each). Currently, there is an imbalance in favour of patients with paroxysmal AF. For this reason, it would be good if you could enroll patients with persistent or permanent AF in the MAESTRIA cohort in particular. Thank you for keeping this in mind for the recruitment of additional patients.
